The Morehead Utility Plant Board was awarded $2,094,216 from the Kentucky federal stimulus money for sewer system improvements and line extensions. State Representatives Rocky Adkins, John Will Stacy and Senator Walter Blevins attended this month’s board meeting to present the check from the Kentucky General Assembly.

According to General Manager Mike Nickell, $801,000 will be used to extend sewer service (lines and pump station) to the Big Woods area, which will add 300 customers. The remaining money wil be used to rehabilitate existing sewer lines under roads in high traffic areas.

Contracts for the rehabilitation will be awarded on a per foot basis until the funds are gone. MUPB plans to rehab almost 21,000 feet of sewer line and lay 14,100 feet of new line from Pine Hills on Route 32 to Big Woods with the stimulus money.
